Visakhapatnam: A disappointed Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal said not playing well in the Power Play overs cost his inexperienced side the just-concluded Twenty20 series against India.
In Ranchi, the Lankans bowlers bled runs throughout while here in the final match, they lost half the side inside six overs.
“Throughout the series we played good cricket. In the first game we got momentum but in the second and third games, we did not start well. In Ranchi, we did not bowl well in the first six overs and here we lost four wickets during Power play overs. These are mistakes in the last two games,” Chandimal said at after the nine-wicket loss in the third T20 here last night.
Chandimal also rued the lack of experienced players in the side to counter the Indian team.
“We have got an inexperienced team. They don’t know how to stay at the crease and get some more runs. We struggled with that. I think they will learn as soon as possible and we are looking forward to do well in the next series.”
The Sri Lankan captain though took out a few positives from the lost series, saying they found a few future players.
“In Dushmanta (Chameera), Dasun Shanaka, Kasun Rajitha, we found those players for future, we can get this positive out of the series,” he said.
India tennis players ruled the roost in the 12th South Asian Games by picking up all the gold medals on offer on the fourth and penultimate day of the event here today.
Indians won gold in women’s singles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles to completely dominate the event at the All Assam Tennis Association Grounds here.
All the final matches today were all-Indian affairs, showing the complete domination by the home players.
In the men’s doubles, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Vijay Prasanth defeated Divij Sharan and Sanam Singh 6-3 6-4 to give the country the first gold and silver of the day.
Ankita Rana then won the second gold for Indian in women’s singles in another all-Indian final. Raina easily beat Prerna Bhambri 6-1 6-0 in the final.
Ankita then paired up with Divij Sharan to win gold in mixed doubles after beating another Indian combine of Sanam Singh and Prarthana Thombre 6-2 7-6(3) in the final.
Tomorrow’s men’s singles and women’s doubles finals will also be all-Indian affairs. The pair of Rishika Sunkara and Natasha Palha will take on the duo of Prarthana Thombre and Sharrmadaa Baluuishika in the women’s doubles final.
The two Indian pairs beat their respective opponents in the semifinals today.

BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur today said “no country should feel insecure” about playing in India amid reports that Pakistan has proposed to play its matches in the upcoming World T20 at a neutral venue citing security concerns.
“BCCI will organise the World Cup in the nicest possible way and will provide every team with highest protection.
Earlier also we have hosted many World Cups and international matches and I don’t think any country should feel insecure here,” Thakur told reporters here.
Pakistan’s cricket chief Shaharyar Khan had earlier stated that a proposal was sent to play their World Twenty20 matches on neutral venues next month in the event Islamabad does not allow the team to tour India.
The 41-year-old Thakur said that it was entirely up to Pakistan to decide whether they wanted to play the World T20 in India or not.
“Bilateral series is totally a different topic but in the World Cup teams from across the world will come and participate. Pakistan is one among those 16 teams and the Indian government will provide complete security to all the teams. I think all the qualifying teams should come and participate in the World Cup. India is ready and if any country has some issues then they need to decide about it,” he said.
The PCB had initially hinted that its side might withdraw from the upcoming event if the Pakistan government did not permit them to tour India.
Shaharyar later added that they had also made a proposal during the recent ICC Board meeting in Dubai that Pakistan be allowed to play their matches at neutral venues in case the government’s decision is not favourable.
India is scheduled to host the mega-event from March 8 to April 3
India established early dominance in the weightlifting competition by grabbing two gold medals on the first day of competitions in the 12th South Asian Games here today.
Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, silver medalist at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, opened the medal account for India in weightlifting in women’s 48kg weight category.
She lifted a total of 169kg (79kg in snatch + 90kg in clean and jerk). All her efforts in snatch, clean and jerk and total are South Asian Games records as women’s weightlifting has been included for the first time in the SAG.
Dinusha Hansani Bomiriyaga Gomas of Sri Lanka won the silver with a total lift of 145kg (65kg+80kg), while Molla Shabira of Bangladesh bagged the bronze medal with an effort of 143kg (63kg+80kg).
Gururaja bagged the second gold for India by winning the men’s 56kg event with a total lift of 241kg (104kg + 137kg) on the opening day of the competitions today.
Chathuranga Lakmal of Sri Lanka won the silver with a total lift of 239kg (111kg + 128kg) while Abdullah Ghafoor of Pakistan bagged the bronze with an effort of 227kg (102kg +125kg).
India had won three gold and a silver in men’s weightlifting in the last edition in Dhaka in 2010.

India today became the number one side in the ICC T20 rankings after whitewashing Australia in the three-match series here today.
India, who are also the number one in Tests, overtook the West Indies to reach the top sport in the shortest format. India have 120 rating points, two more than the Caribbean unit. Sri Lanka also have 118 rating points like the West Indies but they are third in the charts.
India have hit top form in the T20 format ahead of the World T20 to be held at home in March-April. They had famously won the inaugural World T20 in South Africa in 2007.
England (117 rating points) are fourth in the rankings ahead of New Zealand (116), South Africa (115), Pakistan (113) and Australia (110). Afghanistan (80) and Scotland (66) round up the top-10.
Outplayed in the ODIs, a faltering India will look to get the balance right as they eye redemption in a three-match Twenty20 series against Australia starting here tomorrow which also kicks off their build-up for the World T20 Championships in March-April.
The Indian team was comprehensively beaten in the ODIs, losing the series 1-4 and the T20Is would be an opportunity for the side to pick some positivity from the so far disappointing tour.
Both teams will also begin their run-in for the ICC tournament, particularly the Men in Blue who only have T20Is lined up before the big tournament begins.
The Indian team doesn’t really play too many T20I matches. Since the addition of the format to the international schedule in 2006, they have only played 57 games, with 28 of them across five World T20 events in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2014.
As such, since December 2006, when the Men in Blue first played a T20I against South Africa, they have only featured in 29 bilateral matches. And their record outside the World T20 isn’t particularly impressive, with 15 losses and 14 wins.
These records won’t really play heavily on the Indian team management as they prepare for this T20I series, but the conditions here definitely will.
The just-concluded Big Bash League has been a high scoring encounter, much like the ODI series in the first leg of this trip, and the pitches are expected to be flat and have ample bounce for the batsmen to make merry.
The difference in conditions from the World T20 in India won’t really allow either side to judge their spin options, but they will be busy evaluating different permutations and combinations.
For India, it will be about getting their team balance right, in particular their strength, batting. Ajinkya Rahane has been ruled out of this first T20I, as he hasn’t sufficiently recovered from the split-webbing injury suffered in Canberra.
Even in his absence though, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be keen to get the batting line-up optimised from the word go.
The Indian skipper had lined up Rahane to open in the third T20I against South Africa that was washed out in Kolkata in October.

But back then, Shikhar Dhawan’s form was also under a cloud. The former’s absence and the latter’s runs in the ODI series mean that he will continue to open with Rohit Sharma in this series.
Virat Kohli obviously picks himself at number three, and thereafter, Yuvraj Singh is primed to make his international return for the first time since the 2014 World T20 final in Bangladesh.
Sydney’s centurion Manish Pandey isn’t part of the T20I squad here, and as such Yuvraj, Suresh Raina and Dhoni are expected to form up nos. 4, 5 and 6, perhaps alternating as per the match situation.
The Indian skipper had hinted as much in the post-match press conference at the SCG, and the return of the two middle order batsmen is more than a certainty. Even so, picking the optimal bowling combination will be a challenge.
There are five slots available to Dhoni and he has to pick from R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Harbhajan Singh, Ashish Nehra, Umesh Yadav, Rishi Dhawan, Gurkeerat Mann, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya.
Fitting in a couple all-rounders into this mix will also be on the skipper’s mind, and it will be interesting to see how he goes about doing so.
Trying out youngsters is the flavour of the month in the Indian dressing room currently, and there will be a temptation to throw the hard-hitting, in-form Pandya into the mix. But all indications are that he might have to wait for his chance.
Dhoni was mighty impressed with Bumrah’s debut, in particular his death bowling in Sydney, and will look to give him another go, given that Umesh Yadav has been bleeding runs at every possible opportunity.
Rishi Dhawan was held back as Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s replacement and it speaks volumes about how the team management looks at his bowling performances in the ODI series.
Nehra had a fair go in the net sessions on Monday morning and if he is the other certainty among the returning senior players, then this combination of medium pace leaves two spots open for the spinners.

Two days after one of the missing youths from Malwani was traced by the Anti Terrorism Squad, one more youth returned home on his own on Thursday. The ATS is now quizzing him about his whereabouts and movements during the time that he was missing.
According to ATS officials, the youth, Noor Mohammad, who had been missing since December 15, reached his Malwani residence on Thursday afternoon.
His family then informed the police about his return, who in turn informed the ATS.
“We are making inquiries with Mohammad about where he was and what he did during the time that he was missing. So far, there has not been any indication of him having established contact with any terrorist outfit, but it is still too early to reach a conclusion,” said an ATS officer.
The ATS had picked up the first missing young man, Wajid Sheikh, from Pune on Tuesday and had allowed him to go after questoning him in detail.
Meanwhile, officials confirmed that one of the two remaining missing men, Ayaz Sultan, had left the country last month.
Sultan had gone missing in October, and on November 1, he boarded a flight to Kabul after which he has been untraceable.
“We do not have any information about him having reached Syria but there has been no other information about his whereabouts either,” said an officer.
New Delhi, Dec 1: A football tournament featuring teams representing various communities of northeast India residing in the national capital will be held in a more organised manner from next year, union minister Kiren Rijiju said on Tuesday. “I assure you, the government and the ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) will extend full support to this tournament,” Rijiju said while kicking off the Ninth ONGC Northeast Tamchon Football Tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here. “From next year, we want a formal organisation of this tournament. We want the organisers to concentrate on organising the event and not worry about money,” said the minister of state for home affairs. Rijiju also complimented the organisers, the Tangkhul Naga Society Delhi (TNSD), for unfailingly organising the tournament every year since its inception. Tuesday’s inaugural match was played between Hmar FC and Wung United FC. The 16 participating teams have been divided into groups of four. The other teams in the fray are Barhungkha FC, Sikkim Gambos FC, SSPP, Chiru REM FC, ASUD-TODO FC, Zelianrong FC, Hornbill FC, Garo FC, KSL, Muvanlai, Senapati FC, Chandel FC, MISAD and United Rhino FC. The final match will be played on December 12.
Dinesh Warnakulasuriya, a 28-year old waiter at the Ristretto Café in Golden Tulip Al Thanyah, beat off stiff competition at the first ever TIME Hotels Dubai Waiters Race, which took place on 20 November 2015.
Co-ordinated by Festivities Dubai, the starting point for the inaugural race was the TIME Oak Hotel & Suites in TECOM, with the 35 eager participants racing around a set 1.5-kilometre course.
Runners faced a unique challenge with speed and dexterity the order of the day as they were required to complete the run carrying a loaded tray containing two full glasses and a bottle of water.
Sponsored by Fresh Farm, Pepsi, Pan Outdoor Media and Green Leaf Air conditioning services, the 8am start didn’t deter entrants with a total of seven competing hotels, each fielding a waiters-only team of five runners.
Speed, agility and balance were challenged at every turn as they raced as fast as possible along the 1.5-kilometre course, with participating hotels including TIME Hotels, Atana, Golden Tulip, Gloria Hotel, Boutique 7, Auris and First Central.
Commenting on his win, Dinesh Warnakulasuriya said: “it was great to win, we train every day as it is our job to provide good quality service, so it is always fun to put our skills to the test and compete against other peers in the industry.”
The waiters were judged on the amount of water lost, waiter standards (posture, grooming, smile) and timing.
“The Waiters’ Race really brought the community together, overall it was a great success and we are already receiving entries for next year’s event; so we look forward to making it an even bigger, better and more competitive race,” said Mohamed Awadalla, CEO, TIME Hotels.
The Individual Race was won by Golden Tulip, with Atana taking second place, and TIME Hotels coming in third. The Relay Race was won by Atana, followed by Golden Tulip, with Gloria Hotel in third place.
