Actor Rohit Roy, who is playing a lensman in Madhur Bhandarkar‘s upcoming film ‘Calender Girls’, says he took inspiration from noted fashion photographer Atul Kasbekar for his role.
‘Calendar Girls‘, starring five newcomers, revolves around models who gain fame after featuring in famous calendars.
“I play a photographer in the film. My character is inspired by renowned fashion photographer Atul Kasbekar. It’s a very interesting role to play,” Rohit told PTI.
The ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ star is also penning a film script, which he will start shooting by the year end.
“I am at the final stage of writing. The film is a slice-of-life one. We will start shooting it soon as I am done with the final draft. I am excited to make my debut as a director,” he said.
Rohit, who started his showbiz career with TV, made a comeback to the small screen after a gap of seven years and currently stars as a happy-go-lucky station master on ‘Peterson Hill’.
In just one weekend, the movie version of the best-selling book, Fifty Shades of Grey, has racked up $265 million at the global box office. With $85 million of that coming from the U.S., the film had the best opening weekend of any February release in history beating out The Passion of the Christ which earned $83.8 million when it opened in 2004.
Considering the film cost just $40 million to make, it’s already a huge profit-maker for Universal and its parent company Comcast CMCSA -1.14%. As my colleague Scott Mendelson pointed out, Universal did a great job marketing the movie (aside from a disastrous press tour) and the studio apparently made the right decision to tone down some of the more explicit sexual material that made the book such a hit but would have risked an NC-17 rating.
For years the most successful Valentine’s Day movies have been based on Nicholas Sparks books. Films like The Vow and Safe Haven were the go-to February romance films. Fifty Shades of Grey changed the equation before it even hit theaters. This year’s annual Nicholas Sparks film, The Longest Ride, will hit theaters in April instead of February this year.
While I would like to hope that the lesson Hollywood takes away from the film is that female directors making movies aimed almost squarely at women can make boatloads of money, it’s more likely that other studios will just look to replicate the Fifty Shades template of an inexpensive soft-core film hitting theaters in February. It will be almost impossible to find a similarly successful book to base future films on but there are plenty of Fifty Shades clones with unsubtle names from best-selling authors like Tame Me, Taking It All and Bared To You. Today executives are no doubt screaming at their development worker bees to find the next Fifty Shades.
Universal has a lock on this market for the next few years thanks to the two sequels to Fifty Shades from author E.L. James. Although both lead actors Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan seemed like they absolutely hated filming the first movie, a nice bump in salary should help get them back for the next two films.
While some have said Fifty Shades could become the R-rated equivalent of Twilight, that seems like a stretch. The film will have to hold strong at the box office in order to approach Twilight levels (even the first Twilight movie earned $392 million at the global box office) and each subsequent film will have to earn more at the box office. The final Twilight movie, Breaking Dawn Part II was the highest-grossing of the franchise with $830 million at the global box office.
There’s a good chance Fifty Shades won’t have that kind of staying power. Audiences may have paid their money opening weekend but they’re not overly-enthused about the film. It got a Cinemascore of C+. Kingsman: The Secret Service, which was the other big film this weekend with $36 million at the box office, gets a B+.
Even if it’s not the next Twilight, it’s sure to spur plenty of imitators, just like the book did.

Wow! Have a look at this bold statement that Bips has just made on Humshakals director Sajid Khan!
“I don’t have any equation with him (Sajid Khan). I don’t want to keep an equation with him. Why should I? I have my life. I’m done with Humshakals. I don’t know about everyone… I still did my part and finished shooting for it. (Pauses) You know, he (Sajid Khan) told me on my face that my problem was that I’m a real actor and I couldn’t be great until I started hamming.”
Yes, the film really was bad, but this is quite shocking, even for Bipasha!
Well, Bipasha did disassociate herself from the film Humshakals just before its release. In fact, the film’s producer Vashu Bhagnani had even told that he will never work with the Bong beauty again!

It started with an inconspicuous invitation, a very special Miss Dior event on February 4 that everyone was invited to. Not a hint of what it was—until this morning, the short film directed by Anton Corbijn was released. It’s the day of Miss Dior a.k.a Natalie Portman’s wedding—for the brand’s new fragrance—Miss Dior—the scent of freedom.
The film showcases a singulary inspiring Portman, who dares to flee towards a future that she decides for herself. As she prepares for her big day in the French Riviera, walking down the isle in her Dior Couture gown to the music of Janis Joplin’s Piece Of My Heart, she can only picture running away into the wild, released from all ties. And so she does, walk (run) down the altar towards a free self. She strips off her couture, revealing a strapless black dress, ready to be swept off by a helicopter.
Miss Dior, the perfume, first launched in 1977, exudes major chypre accords, with fruity top notes dominated by Madarin, followed by a floral symphony of Turkish and Bulgarian rose.
Jennifer Lawrence bravely bares it all in this new photo for the March 2015 issue of Vanity Fair!
The 24-year-old actress laid down naked with only a massive Colombian red-tailed boa constrictor covering her up.
The photo, which was shared on the mag’s Instagram, was taken by photographer Patrick Demarchelier as a nod to Richard Avedon‘s 1981 Vogue portrait of Nastassja Kinski.
“Jennifer has the perfect combination of strength, sexuality, and humor, and, above all, tomboy to pull this off,” Vanity Fair‘s fashion and style director Jessica Diehl said.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard made it legal at their home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, a source tells PEOPLE.
As previously reported, a bigger wedding is still to come this weekend on Depp’s private island (Little Hall’s Pond Cay) in the Bahamas.
Depp, 51, and Heard, 28, got engaged over the holidays in 2012 after meeting on the set of 2011’s The Rum Diary.
They stepped out as a couple in 2012 after the actor split with longtime partner Vanessa Paradis, and though they weathered split rumors late last year, the two have seemed better than ever as of late, showing off PDA at various events.
Mumbai, Feb. 5 — Shraddha Kapoor is having a tough time dealing with fan frenzy, as admirers have started to encroach upon her private space.
The actor was forced to ask her building security to keep tabs on the visitors, after she was mobbed in the lobby by a few fans recently when she alighted from the car to get in.
“Shraddha was in for a surprise when she was returning home at 2 am after a shoot. Three boys, who are apparently big fans of her, dodged the security guards and made it to her lobby,” says a source close to the actor.
Shraddha amicably met them and enquired as to how long they had been waiting for her. Though they did not seem intimidating, she was alarmed that someone could breach the security and enter her building.
After they left, the actor apparently called the guards and asked them to beef up the security with immediate effect.
“Shraddha stays near Juhu Beach and when people see her around, they often follow her till the building and wait outside. When the guards learnt about this (recent trespassing) incident, they decided to take extra precautions and added more guards,” says the source.
When contacted, Shraddha confirmed the news, saying, “It is their (the fans) way of showing love and I feel lucky to have them in my life. But after some boys managed to fool the guards post-midnight and entered my lobby, I asked the guards to be extra careful.”

New Delhi: The controversial show by AIB, where Bollywood biggies—Karan Johar, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and several others were seen knocking out each other with their ‘pun intended’ jokes has landed itself in trouble.
After celebrities were seen supporting actors Ranveer and Arjun for being brave enough to sail through such ‘personal’ comments being made at during the show, it has now been reported that several political parties have demanded strict action against the organisers of the show.
The obscene and derogatory content of the show is the reason why many are raising their voice against the same. Reports suggest that AIB has pulled down the video from YouTube for the time being. According to a leading daily, Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis even assured that strict action will be taken against any violation, if the content is found to be vulgar.
MNS too has reportedly demanded an apology from the participants, lest they would stop their films from getting releases in the state. Earlier, filmmaker and censor board member Ashok Pandit too had attacked Karan Johar, one of the participants in the AIB Knockout session through a tweet that was distasteful.
After scooping up the Colors Screen Award for Best Costume for her work styling Saif Ali Khan’s Cocktail (2012), Vogue’s fashion director Anaita Shroff Adajania highlights her favourite looks from the film.
Dangerously high hemlines, floral palazzos, and plenty of sequins seem to be the key ingredients to a critically acclaimed wardrobe. Especially when worn by the lithe body that is Deepika Padukone.
Palazzo perfect
The 70’s casual vibe that Deepika portrayed with her floral palazzos and green vest became one of the most popular looks of the film.
“The ensemble had an easy vibe,” explains Anaita, adding, “As if she had partied hard the previous day and didn’t want to think too much about what she was wearing.”
Tone on tone
Pairing a green shirt with a pair of green shorts was a fashion risk, even though it played perfectly into the monochrome trend of the time.
“The fringe boots became the stand-out accessory of this particular look,” Anaita says.
Introducing the ‘skort’
In a shorts-meets-skirt happily-ever-after tale, Deepika struts into a club wearing the party girl’s new best friend: the skort.
Added advice from the award-winning stylist: “You don’t have to wear one look from head-to-toe. Here an embellished vest worn with a bright bra underneath and layered necklaces works best.”
Stars and stripes
“Veronica (Deepika’s character) had many faces, and this was her demure side,” says Anaita. The crisp, comparitively covered-up look — striped body-fitting sheath, high ponytail, clashing purse — was a clear departure from the character’s usual style.
The new party look
Wanting to break the myth of traditional club wear, Anaita paired a worn vest with a sparkly skirt for the beach bash.
“It needed to look as if she’d worn Saif’s T-shirt to the party,” the stylist explains, adding, “And the best part is this whole ensemble can transition from day to night.”
