Three national award-winning actresses of Bengali films — Roopa Ganguly, Rituparna Sengupta and Indrani Halder — have joined hands for a women-centric film.
Aro Ekdin deals with the lives and careers of three friends who rediscovered their personal bonding.
“Rupadi, Indrani and I was never cast in the same film. We three had never shared screen space,” said Rituparna. Adding that in Aro Ekdin, a film about the quest of love and understanding, they looked at life’s feel-good factor from their perspective.
“In Piyalir Password, Rupadi was my elder sister. In Dahan, I had worked with Indrani. There is no competition but a positivity on the sets now,” she said.
Rituparna is also working in Srijit Mukherjee’s Partition-based film Rajkahini. The actress, whose character Jhumur is the youngest of the lot in the film, found it challenging to imbibe the traits and mannerisms of her character – in a word living with the character she was not in real life.
“Rupadi essays my senior in college in this film and Indrani is my elder sister Malobika,” she said. Admitting it was a challenging task to assemble three national awardees in a single film, debutant director John Halder said it was a treat to watch them improvise during the takes.
Actress Sayani Ghosh is the youngest face in the all-women group.

Mumbai: Popular fashion designer Masaba Gupta, daughter of veteran actress Neena Gupta and cricketer Vivian Richards, has got engaged to her beau Madhu Mantena, a film producer, at a ceremony here.
“Kal hamaari sagai thi. Aaj hum khush hain. Aur 7 din mein hamaara show hai! Thank you for the love, now back to wrk,” Masaba, who is widely known for her quirky designs and colourful prints, posted on Twitter on Wednesday, along with a photograph of herself all decked up for her special day.
For her engagement, Masaba flaunted an ebony and ivory neoprene lehenga by designer duo Shivan and Naresh. The ensemble, though elegant, was a far cry from the blast of colours that the young designer often uses on her own creations.
Masaba, a former fashion director at label Satya Paul, had been dating Mantena — who has produced films like “Ghajini” and “Rann” in the past, and is associated with Phantom Films — for some time before they got engaged on Tuesday.
Their engagement celebration, held at rooftop restaurant and lounge Asilo, was attended by celebrities including Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Huma Qureshi. Huma stepped out wearing an Anita Dongre creation for the engagement.
“We loved hosting -@MasabaG& -#MadhuMantena’s engagement at -#ASILO last evening. Congratulations to the lovely couple,” read a tweet from the official Twitter handle of Asilo.
Masaba will now get back to preparations for her show at the forthcoming edition of the Lakme Fashion Week here next week.

The Ek Paheli Leela actress has pulled off an act that Dippy is famous for. Read on to find out the full story!
Sunny Leone is currently gearing up for her next erotica, Ek Paheli Leela and we hear Deepika Padukone was an inspiration for one of her sensuous acts in the film. Yes, that’s right! Dr Zeus, who had composed Deepika’s Lovely track in Happy New Year, made this recent revelation stating that he has tried idolising Sunny as Dippy, in his latest chartbuster Meri Desi Look from Ek Paheli Leela.
Talking to a leading daily, the popular singer reasoned about the same and said, “In its idea, drum beats and choice of instruments, Meri desi look is strongly inspired by Happy New Year’s Lovely. I have plenty of other sounds in my repertoire too, but since I’m new to Bollywood, after seeing the Lovely visuals of Deepika (Padukone), I felt Sunny Leone too needed a song with the same swag and swing.”
Well, the idea certainly seems to have worked big time! Fans are totally loving Sunny in Desi Look and is getting massive hits on YouTube. However, it’s to be noted that this isn’t the only Sunny Leone number that’s borrowed its inspiration from an original track. The Ragini MMS2 actress has also reprised Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Dholi Taro in another track from Ek Paheli Leela. This only makes us curious, who’s next on Sunny’s list?
Soni Razdan’s Love Affair, a fictionalised version of the infamous Nanavati murder case that rocked the nation in 1959, is going on the floors this month. And leading lady Kalki Koechlin is prepping to step into the glamorous shoes of the leading lady, a character inspired by Sylvia Nanavati.
Sylvia, the English wife of Indian naval commander KM Nanavati, found herself at the centre of a passion crime, after her extramarital affair took a violent turn when her husband, caught her and her paramour redhanded and gunned him down.
Soni says that Kalki is the perfect fit for the complex role. “The character is a sexy siren who battles intense loneliness. Her marriage is on the rocks and she’s pushed to a point where she seeks companionship outside marriage. The film examines the nature of a marriage and what we, as individuals, expect from it.” When asked whether Kalki, whose parents are French expats, was cast because of her foreign lineage, Soni replied, “Yes. Kalki is of foreign origin, yet speaks great Hindi. That’s a rare combination. Also, I was impressed by her previous performances and knew she could carry off the part.”
The film will see the actress pair up with Ali Fazal, who plays her lover and Gulshan Deviah, who plays her husband. Ali Fazal replaced Arjun Rampal who opted out over remuneration issues. Did the change in cast lead to any script rewrites? “Absolutely none!” retorts Soni.

Did Naomi Campbell and Cara Delevingne get into a physical fight over Rihanna? Sources claim the models were involved in an altercation during a Paris Fashion Week party on Sunday. Campbell has since denied the allegations.
A witness told Page Six that Campbell got upset when she thought Delevingne said “something negative” about their mutual pal Rihanna. Campbell allegedly pushed her fellow model, and Delevingne unsuccessfully tried to pull off Campbell’s weave in response.
“It was a noisy and packed party,” one source said of this alleged catfight at the Castel nightclub. “Naomi was saying all these nonsensical things, she was ranting. There was a messy pushing match. Cara didn’t understand because there’s no problem between her and Rihanna. Cara didn’t want to be involved and was telling Naomi, ‘Get away from me!’”
But another insider defended Naomi Campbell’s actions at the bash for Dasha Zhukova’s Garage Magazine.“Naomi didn’t do anything wrong.,” this source added. “We are talking about a very tiny club in Paris with a very busy table — if someone pushes someone, it’s because there is no space.”
Cara Delevingne didn’t seem too fazed by the allegations when she walked in a Chanel show on Tuesday. And both she and the Empire actress denied the rumors on their Twitter pages.

She’s as well-known for her stunning figure as she is for her chart-topping hits so it’s perhaps no surprise that American songstress Taylor Swift is reported to be insuring her legs for a cool £26.5million.
Grammy-winning Taylor, 25, attributes a huge slice of her global success to her energetic stage performances and her team have apparently looked into how much it would cost to insure her legs against potential career-threatening accidents.
The Pennsylvania-raised star is embarking upon a global tour in May and the move is said to be a precaution against such a physically-demanding schedule.

“When I participated in Bigg Boss, people assumed that I would be jumping on the couch and taking my clothes off,” says Sunny Leone, laughing.
The 33-year-old former adult entertainer is in her car, on her way to a night shoot, at the time of this interview. “But that’s not who I am in real life,” she says. “The audience saw that I am a regular girl who was learning to cook and talk in Hindi. If it was any other way, I wouldn’t be here doing Bollywood movies today, would I?”
Maxim magazine named Leone among the top 12 porn stars in the world in 2010. In 2012, she made her Bollywood debut with Pooja Bhatt’s Jism 2 – a role she bagged after meeting Mahesh Bhatt in the Bigg Boss house – and last year, she featured in Ragini MMS 2. Five of her movies are currently in different stages of shooting and production.
From an adult entertainer to an aspiring Bollywood actress, does her success reflect changing mindsets when it comes to sex and the modern Indian woman? “I don’t see myself as a crusader,” Leone says. “I am simply a girl who wants to act and make a career in Bollywood. When people see me giving interviews on TV, or when I make public appearances, they see that my personality is not what they had imagined based on my previous job.”
Leone stresses that she is not ashamed of her past or her sexuality. Being sexy, she says, is second nature for her. But what she really wants to focus on right now is acting. “Even if people say Sunny is a decent actress, not great, not excellent, just decent, that would mean a lot to me,” she says.
Getting there, given her sexually charged past, is not going to be easy. Leone is not oblivious to that. “Everyone has baggage,” she says. But how will she shed that baggage if she plays a seductress in every film?
“Each movie is different. Each character is different. If you make me wear full pants and a shirt, I will be that person who people don’t recognise,” she says. Her fans will see her differently, but that’s going to happen gradually, not overnight, she adds.
As for the average Indian woman’s openness and expression of her individual sexuality, Leone believes to each her own. Leone, who once admitted to being bisexual with a greater preference for men, is now married. Her husband, Daniel Webber, is also her manager.
“Ultimately, it all boils down to how confident and comfortable you are with your own sexuality,” she says. “If your sexuality means pleasing your husband in bed, then so be it. If it means expressing it in other ways, then that’s good too. How you want to express your sexuality is completely your prerogative, not society she says.
