Mumbai, May 21 (PTI) Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who is returning to the silver screen after a gap of almost five years, is happy with the response to the first look of her comeback film “Jazbaa” at the Cannes film festival and says she is curious to see it.
The 41-year-old star had taken a sabbatical following the birth of her daughter Aaradhya. Her last release was in 2010 (‘Guzaarish’) after which she went on maternity leave.
However, Aishwarya does not consider “Jazbaa” as her comeback film.
“I feel I never went anywhere but it will be perceived as my comeback film. I had a chosen a Mani Ratnam film earlier but because of technical reasons he told me he is revisiting it. Now, ‘Jazbaa’ will be that first film..it is a strong subject.. it is not a stereotypical film. It is a great story,” Aishwarya said in a group interview here.
The film directed by Sanjay Gupta will see her playing a lawyer. It also stars Irrfan Khan, Shabana Azmi, Anupam Kher and Jackie Shroff among others.
“I feel the pressure is on Sanjay. After seeing the overwhelming response Sanjay says it is a reminder that the film has to be good. There is a certain language, edit pattern, cinematic language that Sanjay has,” Aishwarya said.
“It is about a single mother, a lawyer.. her daughter who gets kidnapped. People perceive it as serious film and women oriented, it might go that way. But it is interesting to see how is he going to tell the story. I am happy, curious and excited to see Sanjay’s ‘Jazbaa’,” she said.
The first look of “Jazbaa” was unveiled on Tuesday. The film is scheduled to release in October this year.
“I am happy that our first look was displayed and it was trending in India and in Cannes. I am grateful and thankful to audience for showing their interest. As artists we hope people like our work. We work hard. The response is overwhelming and positive. It feels nice as our first look has been appreciated,” Aishwarya said.
“People understand it is a serious kind of a film. Sanjay chose me on the first poster but there are other wonderful actors like Shabana Azmi, Irrfan Khan and Jackie Shroff. It was great working with them,” she said.
Aishwarya is attending the Cannes Film Festival as the L’Oreal ambassador for the 14th consecutive year and she said every time she feels overwhelmed to be at the gala.
“These experiences are lovely each time. I had come here for ‘Devdas’, then on jury, being a brand ambassador..then I got married and I came back, then after Aaradhya was born I came here,” she added.
The incident recently took place at the Sangarsh Nagar Police Chowky
In a shocking incident, three cops — Sunil Khatpe and Suresh Suryavanshi and Yogesh Ponde were arrested, along with five commoners after a model approached Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria. The model alleged that she was taken to the Sangharsh Nagar Police Chowky on the night of April 2 and held there till the afternoon of April 3. She also stated that cops extorted Rs 9.33 lakh from her and a male friend. As per the victim, Khatpe forced her to have sex with him at the police chowky. The commoners reportedly run an extortion racket with help of cops Ibrahim Khan aka Ibbu, the mastermind of this racket has been operating for nearly 15 years. He along with his men would extort money from hoteliers by posing as journalists.
Officials close to the investigations of the said case informed that there were several other constables and police officers present at the police station that knew about the incident but chose to keep mum instead of helping the model since the accused were their colleagues.
Just a while back, we reported that Bombay Velvet is expected to clock in around Rs 16 crore in its first weekend. Well, the official figures are out and the film has made Rs 16.10 crore at the Indian BO…
Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Karan Johar starrer Bombay Velvet hasn’t got cash registers jingling. In fact, Anurag Kashyap’s latest offering has fared worse than Jr Kapoor’s Besharam which was declared a big flop. I say so because the opening weekend collection of Bombay Velvet is less than the first day collection of Besharam which by the way was directed by Anurag’s brother Abhinav Kashyap. Now that’s an interesting anecdote, hai na? Coming back to BV, the film released last Friday and despite featuring talented actors like Jr Kapoor and Anushka, it has failed to impress the audience wee bit.

R Madhavan and Kangna Ranaut in Tanu Weds Manu ReturnsTanu Weds Manu Returns album could have done fewer songs, says Aelina Kapoor.
Fun and celebration are two moods one expects the music of Tanu Weds Manu Returns to reflect.
The music is composed by Krsna Solo and Raj Shekhar is the lyricist.
Since this is an Aanand L Rai film, the presentation is expected to be rustic.
This is what one gets in Banno, which is the only guest composition in the film.
Written by Vayu, who partners with Tanishk to recreate a folk number from the North, Banno is a celebratory song sung energetically by Brijesh Shandllya and Swati Sharma.
They are both relative newcomers and do well to keep the pace and tempo high in Banno.
Sunidhi Chauhan comes on next with Move On. One seldom finds such a fast paced track for a heartbreak situation, but full marks to the music team for this new experience.
Move On will not really top the charts, but it is the kind of song that may play at the interval point of the film.
Ankit Tiwari, an accomplished singer who is delivering one chart buster after another, may do the same with Mat Ja Re.
Krsna Solo and Raj Shekhar come up with this poignant love song which tends to linger.
The pick of the four songs are Lalla Lalla Lori and Boat Ma Kukdookoo, which at least go well with the fun flavour of the film, writes Aelina Kapoor
With titles like Lalla Lalla Lori, Boat Ma Kukdookoo, Shakira and Chal Bhaag, you know what to expect from this short album of Welcome 2 Karachi.
Several composers and lyricists have worked on the soundtrack.
Rochak Kohli, whose Paani Da Rang (Vicky Donor) was very popular, comes up with something radical in Lalla Lalla Lori, which he has composed and written.
By roping in Vishal Dadlani and Shivi, he makes sure it’s a high energy outing.
The Hindi-Gujarati number Boat Ma Kukdookoo (Rochak Kohli with co-lyricist Ravi Singhal), is heard during a party on a boat.
Mika Singh is roped in to get all naughty as bikini-clad girls surround Arshad Warsi and Jackky Bhagnani.
