Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan celebrate their 42nd wedding anniversary on June 3, 2015. While Jaya Bachchan in not in the country at the moment, Big B mentioned their special day on his daily blog. The actor wrote a special note describing the wedding day. He posted, “The hurried simple preparations .. the ceremony in Bengali tradition .. the drive from my rented place to the apartment of a dear friend of Jaya’s family .. my driver Nagesh insisting on driving me , sehra bound, to the site, not permitting my brother to do the honours .. the gentle drops of rain that began to fall just before .. the neighbours rushing to our place on seeing this and telling us to depart for the wedding, as the rain was a wonderful omen of auspiciousness .. and finally after it was all over, the entrance of the bride into our home and the departure soon after to London with some dear friends for a honeymoon .. our very first visit to the UK ..” [sic]
Amitabh’s words offer an insight into their wedding day celebrations. Big B and Jaya Bachchan indeed make for a wonderful pair both on screen and off it. However, Amitabh Bachchan wants to romance another Bollywood actress
Sonakshi Sinha sure had reason to feel super special on her 28th birthday. Apparently, Salman Khan, who is a dear friend of the actress, thew an impromptu surprise bash at his Panvel farmhouse. Salman had apparently invited a whole host of B-town celebrities for the massive celebrations.
According to a source, “It came as a huge surprise to Sonakshi when she was told to leave for Panvel for the bash organised by Sallu. He is always known to be a good host so he had lined up the choicest of delicacies and a huge cake for the birthday girl. Everyone made merry as they danced to all the chartbusters from Salman’s films including the Dabangg tracks.” Sonakshi who intended to spend her birthday shooting for her film followed by dinner with family and friends was pleasatly surprised.
Isn’t this the best way to surprise a loved one ever?
Kangana Ranaut is not particularly fond of the title ‘Queen’ that she earned during her previous film with the same title. However, seems like she has become the heir apparent of this throne that not so long ago belonged to the Piku actress!
Kangana Ranaut’s repertoire of films is getting stronger by the day. And it is not her choice of films alone, the actress is also making great statements and moves that are only taking her closer to the Numero Uno position in Bollywood. Like in 2014, this year too Kangana Ranaut has proved that she is definitely the Queen of Bollywood. Only recently, Piku’s great box office numbers had made Deepika Padukone take the throne but was usurped by Kangana with Tanu Weds Manu Returns. Her brilliant performance, coupled with a great storyline and some hilarious punches, the film has rocked the box office and is continuing to do so. This proves that Kangana has now dethroned Deepika. And here’s how Kangana managed to do so…
anu Weds Manu Returns is a success for a lot of reasons, but Kangana Ranaut is definitely the one who attracted more applause. And why wouldn’t she? The film opening day collections is far better than Deepika Padukone’s Piku. While TWMR earned 8 crore, Piku managed a decent 5.5 crores on its first day which makes it clear that it’s Kangana who is the queen of Bollywood this year and not Deepika Padukone. It has already crossed Piku’s opening weekend collection and is enroute to earn some more!
The right choice
While Deepika kept on harping on My Choice, Kangana made the right choices. In an interview to DNA, she spoke about how she rejected The Dirty Picture for Tanu Weds Manu and is right now reaping the benefits of that decision. She took a risk and, fortunately, it paid off! It has also to do with Deepika’s interest in being part of socially viral videos which at one point of time backfired. While Kangana’s Microsoft commercial went viral and won her more brownie points. The fact that Kangana turned down a fairness cream’s deal because she found it all wrong only went on to fetch her more followers!
Do what is needed
When Piku released and warmed everyone’s hearts, the story of the film got a lot of appreciation apart from Deepika Padukone whereas all people can talk about Tanu Weds Manu Returns is how Kangana has floored everyone. Sometimes all you need to do is stick to your work. Rest is all taken care of!
The hill town of Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, entertained VIP guests from Mumbai on Monday. Actor Salman Khan, dressed in blue, waved at cameras and crowds from a balcony with his sister Arpita and her husband of six months, Aayush Sharma. The Sharmas were throwing Arpita and Aayush a wedding reception in their home town.
Arpita wore a red lehenga while Aayush was far more casually dressed in a blue jacket and sunglasses. The family group on the balcony included Salman’s brother Sohail and mother Salma, and Aayush’s parents. His father Anil Sharma is Himachal Pradesh’s Panchayati Raj Minister.
The winding lanes of Himachal Pradesh were crammed end to end with locals, phones held aloft to take pictures, as Salman drove into town flanked by his bodyguard Shera and Sohail.
Arpita and Aayush were earlier spotted in a quieter moment at the Tarna Temple in Mandi. Arpita looked pretty in a simple red suit.
The reception preparations started over the weekend with a mehendi ceremony:
Met Gala 2015 has happened a few days ago. But, we are still unable to resist a few of the striking appearances that we spotted at the red carpet of the event.
The annual fundraising event that benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City, happens to hold one of the most guilt-free red carpets.
And proving that to us were three most ravishing divas known internationally for their super-surprising sense of fashion.
Trust them to wear everything and anything to look oh-so-stylish and uber bold at times. This year, as these global style icons walked the red carpet, heads turned in search of a single piece of cloth on their frames.
These ladies evidently and quite confidently went sheer. Well, saying ‘sheer’ seems understatement.
The divas adorned too risque-to-accept outfits and shined in them completely
Expect all you can from this Anand L Rai sequel. The film is a happy experience that will keep you in splits throughout. Right from the beginning, ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ successfully keeps your attention intact, scene-per-scene. The old Hindi film song playing in the opening credit roll gives the screenplay such a typical ‘Indian wedding’ feel.
Director Anand L Rai has brilliantly executed what he wanted to in this sequel. The moment Tanu Trivedi (Kangana Ranaut) is seen talking in her patent Kanpuri style while visiting a medical centre, as she feels her husband of four years, Manu Sharma (R Madhavan) is mad—the audience just can’t help but burst out laughing.
The way in which Kangana enacts each scene, as if she has always been and lived as her on screen doppelgänger Tanu—is something which only a talented actress like her can pull off. The story takes off from the point where the original ended. The fact that Manu manages to win Tanu and gets married does not quite end in a ‘happily ever after’.
The storyline of the sequel kicks off from that point, and how differences crop up in any married couple’s life. The banter between Manu and Tanu sounds quite ‘real’ and is filled with comic moments. While Madhavan is superb in his own subtle, suave style of acting (we love him for keeping it understated), Kangana on the other hand is full of confidence, swag and what not.
How the conflict between Tanu and Manu takes her back to Kanpur, and how they meet again is something which is for you to find out on your own. But let’s get back to the plot and other characters who did a fabulous job. While watching this two hour delight, you just can’t escape Pappi ji (Deepak Dobriyal). His antics will bring a wide smile (rather a loud laughter) on your face for sure. This time, the actor has been given much more screen space than the original and yes he does stand out in the film.
So, Manu after his fight with his wife, comes to the capital city, and what does he find there, another Tanu? Thankfully, there is no ‘Kumbh Ka Mela’ to show that these two girls are ‘bichhdi hui behne’. There is absolute perfection in the way Kangana pulls off a Haryanavi-speaking Delhi University athlete – Kusum Sangwan. Her character is a pleasure to watch, and Ranaut deserves a thundering applause for making her look so believable and real.
Kusum is no Tanu, and the director has shown his brilliance in keeping their identities in contrast. The screenplay moves as ‘seedha-saadha’ Manu falls head-over-heels for Kusum, and in no time the love between them blossoms. The filmmaker through humour has even touched the serious problem of inter-caste marriage in Haryana. Although, Kusum faces the brunt of her old-fashioned relatives back home in Jhajhar but it is her elder brother Omi bhaiya, played by Rajesh Sharma, who backs her decision of marrying a divorcee (yes, Tanu slaps him with a notice).
An interesting character named Chintu (Zeeshan Ayub) has been introduced in the sequel, who in his ‘Rampuri’ avatar tries to create trouble and feels that he is in love with the super carefree Tanu. Jimmy Shergill reprises his role of Raja Awasthi from the original, and he looks adorable with that tinge of ‘bhaiyagiri’. However, this time he is shown to be a much more mellowed version of the prequel.
Eijaz Khan and Swara Bhaskar have played their parts well too. But it is undoubtedly Kangana who steals the show, hands down.
Music by Krsna Solo and Tanishk-Vayu is foot tapping and has a freshness to it. ‘Banno’, sung by Brijesh Shandllya, Swati Sharma and ‘Ghani Bawri’ by Jyoti Nooran is already reigning on the charts. Chirantan Das too needs a special mention for a smooth and colour-filled cinematography. A pat on back for dialogue writer Himanshu Sharma for giving us lines worth remembering.
Finally, there is so much more to write about and too little space. Our take—go grab a ticket and get swooned. Sometimes, you really need a part two to fall in love.
It was the front row of dreams: Cate Blanchett and Glenn Close gleaming in their white trouser suits; Leonardo DiCaprio hiding behind his beard; Tina Turner applauding wildly; Hilary Swank crossing her narrow, work-out legs; Lauren Hutton, gap-toothed; and eternal sex pot Sophia Loren, proving that life still sings at 80.
Giorgio Armani, nearly 81, celebrating 40 years of his fashion house, brought Hollywood to Milan to see a reprise of his 10-year-old Armani Privé couture line – and view the Silos building the designer has converted from a old grain factory. It is now transformed as a vibrant four-storey display of those years in fashion from bold androgyny to dreamy elegance.
I had to come – for him,” said Cate Blanchett, echoing the warmth that surrounded the designer throughout an evening that ended with a prolonged standing ovation.
That was after the 10 different show themes, from echoes of the ethnic to Chinoiserie with the shine of lacquered box, which were digitally projected on to a runway, filling the background with intense pattern and colour.
“I am very emotional,” Armani admitted earlier in the day, as he opened up the Silos building to his guests. “It’s a walk through 40 years, reminding me of all the people who have worked with me.”
Giorgio greeted me outside the spare stone-and-glass building facing his Milan headquarters, looking as we all know him so well: navy sportswear, illuminated at top and bottom by his silver hair and white sneakers.
He then gave me the privilege of a walkthrough of the four floors, showing me with his particular, quiet elegance. It started with the signature beige of his early daywear, in which trouser-clad women broke the sexist glass ceiling, and led on to the glamorous evening gowns worn by Hollywood. Thirteen separate display sections include outfits that are not done by year, but each mixing different pieces from the Italian maestro’s long career.
“I am nearly 81 years old – and I have given my life to this,” the designer said later, when we had crossed over to the original Armani building designed by Tadao Ando, where I have seen so many fashion shows – and where that evening’s elegant extravaganza would take place.
Amid rumours that director A M R Ramesh’s next venture ‘Oru Melliya Kodu’ is based on the mysterious death of Sunanda Pushkar, a scene was shot recently, in which Shaam entered wedlock with Manisha Koirala.
While confirming that he is acting opposite Manisha and the wedding scene was canned recently, Shaam is however not ready to reveal much details about the movie. “It is suspense,” smiles the actor, who adds that Ramesh has touched upon an interesting subject.
On working with Manisha, he says, “Her energey levels are amazing. She is the same Manisha of ‘Bombay’ and ‘Indian’ days. She is so dedicated and cooperated with us very well. And she is down to earth despite working with legends Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan.”
