Nepal has formally adopted a new constitution, nearly a decade after the country ended a long-running civil war.
Members of parliament applauded as President Ram Baran Yadav signed the document in the capital Kathmandu.
Earlier on Sunday police fired on protesters in the south, where some members of ethnic minorities oppose the constitution. At least one person died.
The document defines the majority Hindu nation as a secular republic divided into seven federal provinces.
It was agreed by parliament last week, after years of political wrangling. We believe that the adoption of the new constitution has now opened the path for development of the country,” Mr Yadav told the assembly.
Firecrackers went off in Kathmandu in celebration, and some Nepalese spoke of their relief that the country could now move on.
Student Shyam Sharma told the Associated Press news agency that he hoped politicians could “focus on other important issues like developing the country, improving the economy”.
But others across the country are not happy.
Before the signing, clashes broke out between the security forces and a crowd of Madhesi people who had defied a curfew to demonstrate in the town of Birgunj, Parsa district, in southern Nepal.
One person was killed and a number of people were injured.
“They attacked with stones and glass bottles. Some of the security forces have been injured as well as the demonstrators. The situation here is tense,” Parsa’s chief district officer Kesheb Raj Ghimire told the AFP news agency.
At least 40 people have been killed amid protests by the Madhesi and Tharu ethnic groups in the south in recent weeks.
They are concerned that changes to the borders and election rules will further marginalise them.
The demand for a new charter was raised by Maoists rebels whose 10-year civil war ended with a peace deal in 2006.
In 2008, the Maoists won elections to a constituent assembly, leading to the abolition of the 240-year-old monarchy. But amid squabbling, the assembly failed to draw up a new constitution.
The history has been made as Viola Davis became the first African-American woman to win the award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series at the 2015 Emmy awards.
Taking up the stage after her first win, the How To Get Away With a Murder star said, “In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me over that line, but I can?t seem to get there no how. I can’t seem to get over that line. That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s,” reports E! Online.
The 50-year-old actress further thanked her show’s creator Pete Nowalk and executive producer Shonda Rhimes by calling the people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman and to be black.
The 2015 Emmy Awards were held on September 21 in Los Angeles, California.
It seems Madhur Bhandarkar’s Calender Girls has put him into rough waters much before its release.
According to an English daily, a Fatwa has been issued by Pakistani government over the film’s content, as they feel the film will leave a negative impact on the women of their country.
A dialogue from the movie, ”Pakistani ladkiyan bhi utne hi bold kaam karti hai jitni baki ladkiya karti hai; balki kabhi kabhi usse zyada bhi” (Pakistani girls do equally bold work as other girls; and sometimes more than them too) is the reason Pakistani nationals are not happy.
The film is scheduled for a release on 25th September 2015.
Anthony Martial proved to be a decisive figure in the match as the 19 year-old scored a brace to help Manchester United come back from being a goal down to win the match against Southampton 3-2. Graziano Pellè opened Southampton’s account as the Italian striker scored for the Saints in 13th minute. However the lead couldn’t last long as Martial levelled the score in the 34th minute.
Five minutes into the second half, a poor back-pass from Southampton defender Yoshida was converted into a goal by Anthony Martial, to give Manchester United the lead.
Spaniard Juan Mata added the third goal for the Red Devils.
However, towards the dying stages of the match, Graziano Pellè headed home his and Southampton’s second goal of the match, giving the Saints’ fans some hope. But despite numerous efforts towards the end, Southampton failed to find the equaliser and went on to lose 3-2 to United.

Pooja a third year nursing student of Old Philadelphia Mission Hospital, Ambala City, Haryana – 134 002 has sent a SOS message that she will commit suicide as she has been pressurized by the college administration that she will be kicked out of the college. The reason being she took the courage on behalf of her many batch mates to complain to Real News of India against the college administration. She was in fact pressurized to write a withdrawal letter stating that she will leave the college on her own free will.
The nursing students for some time had been facing problems with poor food quality, the pathetic living condition of the hostel, abuses from the staff members and irregular monetary fines by the college. Large amount of cash, as fine to the tune of Rs 2,00,000, Rs 80,000 and Rs 40,000 were charged for minor reasons.
Real News of India contacted the Director of the nursing college, Mr Sunil Kumar Sadiq who was reluctant to talk to us and on our insistence we sent him a letter of the complaints lodged by the students. We opted not to make news assuming that it is a normal complaint by students and that the matter would be solved with the college administration and students.
Real News of India received no reply from the Director. The administration came to know of the student who had complained against the college. Since then she has been made a target and has been constantly being harassed by the administration. In a recent incident Pooja was unable to attend a particular class, she had informed the concerned teacher but later was called by the college principal. The Principal threw her top on the student and in the heated argument the Principal threatened to take Pooja out of the college or else the Principal would leave the college. While writing this news Real News has received a number of panicky calls by the students of any untoward incident that might occur. Real News editorial staff have been pacifying the student to cool down and have requested her friends to counsel her with continuous watch of Pooja’s movements.
Looking at the seriousness of the situation Real News has handed over the case to a local NGO Band Foundation which helps distress people for legal aid. Mr Feroz A. Shaikh Founder of Band Foundation will help the student in all legal matters relating to the case.
Sea turtles arriving at Costa Rica’s Ostional Wildlife Refuge to lay eggs face a new threat from swarms of tourists, who’ve been disrupting the creatures’ annual nesting ritual.
An unprecedented number of tourists visited the beach daily this month, with some entering through unauthorized access points, to witness the hundreds of thousands of turtles laying eggs there, according to the local Tico Times.
The tourists stood in the way, touched the turtles, stood on top of their nests and even placed children on top of them and snapped photos with flash cameras, forcing many of the creatures to return to the sea without laying their eggs.
Costa Rican authorities have launched an investigation into the crowds’ irresponsible behavior as they seriously undermined the government’s efforts to recover the population of olive ridley sea turtles, which are listed as a vulnerable or threatened species.
According to the World Wildlife Fund, the Ostional Wildlife Refuge is one of the two most important areas in the world for olive ridley sea turtle nesting.
Although collecting and selling sea turtle eggs are legal there, people are only permitted to do so from the first three days of each nesting period, as the eggs left behind by the first wave of turtles are often destroyed by turtles arriving later or by high tides.

Trackman Laxman Jhanu, first to spot something amiss with the fast local, saved countless lives on Tuesday by immediately alerting the guard. Jhanu was sitting along the tracks between Andheri’s platform number 8-9 and Parle biscuit factory around 11 am when he sensed the train wheels making an unusual sound.
“I tried to spot what was wrong with the wheels but couldn’t see anything properly. I was sure, however, that something was wrong,” said Jhanu. He then tried to see if something was stuck to the bogie or the wheel but the train was moving at a very high speed. He immediately signalled the guard of the local by rotating both his hands to display that there was a problem with the wheels.
“I alerted the guard. Later, he must applied the brakes,” said Jhanu, who is deputed to look after the rail lines between Andheri and Vile Parle. The train came to a halt within the next few seconds but seven coaches went off the tracks. Some of them even went over to the adjoining track, on which a Borivali-bound fast train was approaching.
Later, Jhanu and his colleagues spent the day fixing the damaged tracks.
Top Indian shuttler PV Sindhu started her campaign at the US $600,000 Korea Open with a hard-fought win over Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon, but it was curtains for Parupalli Kashyap in men’s singles event at the Super Series tournament here today.
Two-time bronze medallist at World Championship, Sindhu eked out a 21-19 21-23 21-13 win over the former World Champion in a women’s singles match that lasted one hour and nine minutes.
Commonwealth Games champion Kashyap, however, could not cross the opening round hurdle after his battle ended with a narrow 21-17 16-21 18-21 loss against Wei Nan of Hong Kong in an hour-long match.
It was also curtains for Pradnya Gadre and Sikki Reddy in the women’s doubles competition as they suffered a 24-26 9-21 loss to the Japanese pair of Shizuka Matsuo and Mami Naito at the SK Handball stadium.
Sindhu, who came into the match with a 0-3 record against the World No. 5 Intanon, showed her mettle till the end to emerge victories against an opponent who had beaten her in straight-games all three times in 2013.
The two players engaged in a tooth and nail fight from the start as after Sindhu opened up a narrow 4-2 lead in the opening game early on, Intanon turned the tables and moved to a 9-6 advantage.
The Indian reeled off four straight points to wrest back control but after that it turned out a rollercoaster ride as lead changed hands too frequently before Sindhu broke off at 18-18 to close the first game in her favour.
In the second game, Sindhu fought back from 4-7 and 8-12 to jump to 20-15 lead and with a chance to seal the match but Intanon produced six straight points to first topple the Indian and then roared back into the contest.
In the decider, Intanon quickly grabbed a 7-3 lead but the a gritty Sindhu soon clawed back and started dominating the proceedings as she continued to extend the gap which the Thai girl could not bridge.
In the men’s singles match, World No.8 Kashyap was up against an opponent he had beaten in China Open last year. The Indian started off well to take a take an early lead against Wen.
In fact, Kashyap had a 13-10 lead at one stage in the second game but the Kong Kong shuttler scored five straight points to grab the lead and then at 17-16, produced another four points on the trot to bounce back into the contest.
The second game seemed to boost his confidence as Wen didn’t look back after that. He opened up a 7-4 lead and held on to the advantage even though Kashyap kept breathing down his neck coming as close as 17-18 at one stage.
