A 12-year-old girl, who got pregnant after being allegedly raped by her stepfather, delivered a baby boy at a government hospital in Mumbai.
The girl, a resident of neighbouring Thane city, delivered the baby at JJ Hospital on Monday, said a senior doctor of the medical facility.
“The newborn would be handed over to an orphanage for which the girl’s family members have given consent,” said obstetrician Rekha Davar, who is Head of Department of Gynaecology at J J Hospital.
The minor’s pregnancy was discovered at very late stage (after seven months). The girl later told her mother that she had been repeatedly raped by her stepfather, resulting in the pregnancy, police said.
“The baby was delivered through Cesarean section surgery since the girl was of very tender age. The baby weights 2.8kg and both the mother and child are doing fine in the neo-natal intensive care unit,” said Davar.
She told PTI, “the minor girl was brought to our hospital by an NGO after a police case was filed. Considering the girl’s age, we admitted her 15 days in advance to provide her full pre-natal care.”
According to another physician, “initially, when the girl complained of abdomen pain (in July), the doctor prescribed painkillers as he didn’t suspect she was pregnant. When painkillers did not work, a sonography was done and it was discovered she was more than seven months pregnant.” A senior officer of Kolsewadi Police Station in Thane, where the case was registered, said, “In July, a case was registered against the accused, who died in a hospital due to illness.”

New glass-bottomed suspension bridge has opened today at Shiniuzhai Geopark in Hunan, central China
It’s the world’s longest glass-bottomed walkway at 984 foot long and is 590 foot above the canyon below
11 engineers were involved in transforming bridge from a normal wooden one into the new construction.
A group of brave tourists learnt the meaning of vertigo the hard way as they became the first visitors to cross a new 590 foot high glass-bottomed suspension bridge in China.
This spectacular structure, the first of its kind in the world, is situated in the province of Hunan, reported People’s Daily Online.
Images have emerged online showing the visitors gripped with fear and frozen in awe while standing on the see-through walkway. One female tourist is seen clutching to the handrail tightly and had to be dragged along by her friend.
The bridge had previously been a wooden overpass that linked two peaks of Stone Buddha Mountain in Shiniuzhai Geopark but is now a 984 foot long glass walkway.
Part of the bridge had already been replaced with a glass cutout in 2014, attracting hordes of fearless tourists.
However, 11 engineers have been working on the bridge over the last few months to replace all the wooden planks with glass panes, transforming the bridge into the world’s first glass-bottomed suspension bridge.
According to reports, several visitors were so terrified that they could barely move.
Some were seen holding on to each other as well as to the railings as they made the crossing.
Many people were gripped by fear as they tried not to look down to the steep drop below.
The bridge was said to wobble slightly when people walked across it, adding to the fear-factor of the frightening ordeal.
However, as part of the scenic site, it also offered incredible views over the geopark and the landscape below.
The amazing construction has already been dubbed ‘hero bridge’ because of the amount of courage required to cross it.
Those worried about the safety of the bridge can rest easy.
The glass panes forming the footpath are said to be 25 times stronger than regular window glass. They’re also created to stay in shape and withstand impact although special footwear has been issued to visitors.
n recent years, glass-bottomed walkways have become incredibly popular for Chinese thrill-seekers.
More and more tourism sites are constructing viewing platforms over steep vertical drops to attract visitors.
Most recently, a glass elevator opened at a scenic site in Hubei, central China, to allow visitors to reach the peak of the mountain quicker.
The elevator was situated next to a cliff-face and was a staggering 3,543 feet above sea level.
When visitors reach the top, they could walk along a glass-bottomed walk way along the cliff to further admire the views.
Earlier this year, a viewing platform in Chongqing, south-western China, became the world’s longest cantilever walkway with a glass bottom.
It’s a breath-taking 2,356 feet drop to the ground below.
Another bridge is currently under construction in Zhangjiajie, Hunan. It will be an astounding 984 feet above the canyon it’s built over.
The 1,247 foot long bridge will be able to accommodate 800 people at any one time when complete.
KATHMANDU: Indra Jatra, one of the biggest street festivals celebrated in the Kathmandu Valley, has started from Friday.
The festival begins after a long wooden pole was erected in front of Hanuman Dhoka in Basantapur Durbar Square.
The festival lasts for eight days with singing, mask dancing and rejoicing along with other rituals.
Indra Jatra festival falls on the fourth day of the waxing moon in the month of Bhadra as per the lunar calendar.
The festival is celebrated in the three districts of the Kathmandu Valley and in Kavre and Dolakha also.
Indra, the god of rain, is worshiped in this festival, and chariots of the living goddess Kumari and living gods Ganesha and Bhairava are pulled.
The festival is primarily celebrated by the Newar communities following both Hinduism and Buddhism.
Legends said that the Indra Jatra festival is observed to celebrate the victory of the gods over the demons to release Jayanta, the son of Lord Indra.
The government has announced public holiday in the Valley on Sunday to celebrate the festival.
Judiciary cannot monitor the business of Parliament as doing so would be “overstepping” its boundary and crossing the ‘lakshman rekha’, the Supreme Court observed on Thursday while dismissing a petition seeking guidelines to ensure uninterrupted functioning of Parliament.
“We cannot monitor Parliament. The Speaker of the House knows how to manage the function of the House. We should know our ‘lakshman rekha’. We should never cross the ‘lakshman rekha’. We should not be overstepping our boundary to say Parliament be conducted in this manner and not in that manner. No, we cannot say,” the bench said.
Further, it said, “in democracy, the parliamentarians know how to function. We are not here to teach them. They know better,” the bench said while rejecting a public interest litigation (PIL) of NGO, Foundation for Restoration of National Values. The PIL said over the last six Parliament sessions, nearly 2,162 hours of business have been lost. Seeking guidelines from the apex court, it said that in the absence of a law, there is total vacuum to deal with the issue of non- functioning of Parliament as was witnessed in the recent monsoon session when large part of the proceedings were washed out due to opposition protests.
“Sustained disruptions, unruly protests” and abstentions by elected members have led to losses to the public exchequer,” the PIL contended. Making it clear that it cannot intervene on such issues, the court said, “We cannot start advising Parliament and they know what they have to do. They are experienced people and people with wisdom. They know and understand their responsibility well.”
Objecting to bringing up such a matter before it, the apex court asked the counsel arguing on the issue, “Have you kept your house (courts) clean”. “You may not know. As Chief Justice of India, I know. How many houses (courts) you have kept clean,” Chief Justice H L Dattu told the counsel, in an apparent reference to the recent incidents in Madras High Court where lawyers disrupted the court proceedings by raising slogans against the High Court Chief Justice.
When the counsel tried to pacify the CJI by saying that “the highest court of the country is clean,” the bench, also comprising Justice Amitava Roy, interrupted him and explained that any indulgence by the apex court in the matter of Parliament proceedings would amount to “over-stepping.” The bench suggested that a representation should be made to the Speaker about the lacunae in law so that it can be taken care of.
When advocate Ravi Prakash Mehrotra drew the attention of the court on concerns voiced by President Pranab Mukherjee on disruption and non-functioning of Parliament, the bench said, “the first citizen of the country has already advised them and they would take the advise seriously.”
May Allah bless you & Your dear ones for happy & prosperous life on Eid UL Azha & always from Real News of India Team
This year, it is starting from the evening of September 22 and will continue till September 23 evening. The festive day marks the end / finish / completion of the annual pilgrimage from Hajj to Mecca. It is the second of the two most celebrated festival and holidays by the Muslim community worldwide. It is observed on the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah which is considered to be the last month of the Islamic calendar.
This is also known as the feast or festival of sacrifice as Eid ul-Adha is derived from the Arabic language in which Eid means festival and Adha means sacrifice. This day is observed to remember the sacrfice done by Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim).
The prophecy and mythology tells that God spared his son but replaced him with a sheep. Muslims usually sacrifice sheep, lambs, goats, rams, and other such animals since then. After sacrificing, the meat is usually divided into three parts. Family retains one, while one part is distributed among friends, relatives, neighbours and the third part is distributed among the poor and needy people.
The Airports Authority of India has decided to build a boarding facility for passengers in transit at the Bagdogra airport by spending around Rs 12 crore.
The AAI officials posted at the airport today said they were waiting for the final approval for the project.
“We have decided to build a ‘transit accommodation centre’ for passengers at the airport. It will be a three-storied building and will have facilities like restaurants and rooms where people in transit can stay,” said Rakesh Sahay, the airport director of Bagdogra.
According to Sahay, the centre will have rooms which can accommodate around 20 people. “There will be restaurants, cafeterias, conference hall and space for airline companies. Anybody arriving at Bagdogra can use the facility and stay overnight in the rooms,” Sahay said.
“The project has been accepted by our superiors and has been sent to our headquarters for final approval. Once we receive the approval, we will go ahead with the project,” he added.
The centre, AAI sources said, will come up next to the office of the airport director, located a few metres away from the terminal building.
The decision to build the centre has been hailed by the residents, particularly the stakeholders of tourism industry.
“It would be an ideal facility for tourists, especially during strikes and natural calamities. There were several instances where we needed to reschedule itineraries of tourists. In such cases, it became troublesome for us to ferry tourists to the airport and vice versa,” said Samrat Sanyal, the executive president of the Eastern Himalaya Travel and Tour Operators’ Association.
Saugata Roy, a manager working in a private finance company, said the conference hall could be of immense help for corporates.
“Senior officials of different companies often pay brief visits to Siliguri. Meetings are held here and at many times, it has been found that a company official has to travel over 20km to Siliguri to hold a meeting before he takes a return flight from Bagdogra,” Roy said.
“Once the centre becomes operational, such meetings can be held at the conference hall planned at the airport. The dining and accommodation facilities would be added advantages.”
As agitations continue to spread in Assam against a recent central notification allowing non-Muslim (read Hindu) migrants from Bangladesh to settle even without any valid documents, the Centre, taking cue from the European countries, is considering dispersing them across several states instead of keeping them just in Assam. Highly placed sources in the government said the Centre is evolving a plan to distribute the non-Muslim Bangladeshi population to several states as Assam alone cannot bear such an enormous load of population. The plan seems to have also stemmed because of ruling BJP dispensation’s fear of political backlash in Assam against it for forcing native population to share finite land resources with “illegal migrants” that can have a bearing on the next year’s state assembly elections.
The Union home ministry notification of September 7 that allows persons belonging to minority communities in Bangladesh and Pakistan who entered into India on or before the 31st December, 2014 to stay on without any valid documents immediately sparked off agitations by over a dozen organisations in Assam, including All Assam Students Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP). They claim the notification is an abrogation of Assam Accord of 1985 that states that foreigners who came to Assam on or after 25 March, 1971 will be expelled. The Accord was arrived at on 15 August 1985 after a prolonged anti-Foreigners agitation in Assam.
“We are working out on the modalities and procedures of the distribution and will soon be talking to states about it to bring them on board. Hopefully, the states will see the reason and accommodate them,” said a senior official.
The Bangladeshi Hindu migrant population living in Assam alone is expected to be in several lakhs and has to distributed among close to a dozen states so that it does not become a troubling issue.
“We have a sterling example of European countries that have worked out a solution for accommodating thousands of refugees from Syria, Lebanon and other Asian and African countries. Why can’t it be done within a country,” said the official. However, the decision to issue a notification seems to have been taken in a rush without working out modalities of distributing the migrants across the country as the Centre is has not made any guidelines, procedures or methods of detecting people from minority communities in the neighbouring countries. “We are asking all such people to report to the Foreigners Regional Registration Officers (FRROs) but we do not have an estimate of the numbers yet,” an official said.
Moreover, the government is yet to decide the status of these people as they are neither refugees nor citizens but have been simply allowed to stay on.
A young girl just out of college talking to her group of friends says she would never opt for arrange marriage. She explains how can I get married to a guy whom I have just known that also on the phone. Just because my parents are friendly with her parents it is not necessary that I would like him. These are the comments which you might hear among the educated middle and upper middle class youngsters.
Most of the older lots had a arranged marriage, (but not necessarily all of them) was a pair made by the gods that was what was perceived by the society. This view can also be contradicted by the elder generation of bollywood stars who are still going strong with their love marriages and as a result of young breed of stars from them propping up every year. here I would also like to state I am also a result of a love marriage.
A young man of 32 years who is an Aircraft Engineer by profession could not find a suitable wife on his own. His father would always complain to people that his son is not capable in finding a wife for himself. He was a non achiever. An achiever finds his/ her a partner and gets settled in today’s life.
Marriages are meant to be compatible, loving and trust worthy. He or she may be drifted apart for some point of time but will definitely return back to his/her spouse. The ugly part of dowry does nor exist in love marriages. Love marriages are normally nuclear families where as arranged marriages are of an extended family.
