(5 Nov) Guwahati: With Assembly polls only a few months away, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi favours a realignemnt of political forces, including the AIUDF, to fight the BJP on a single platform. Cautious about the difficult possibility of bringing the parties like CPI, CPI-M, AIUDF and Bodoland People’s Front together, he says it should not be viewed as a poll alliance but a grouping of forces joining hands to tackle communalism. “There is no such possibility (of an alliance) but I appeal to all political forces like the CPI, CPI-M, BPF and even the
AIUDF to join hands against divisive forces trying to create trouble in the country,” Gogoi told PTI interview. BJP had emerged the largest winner in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections winning 7 seats out of 14 in Assam. AIUDF, led by perfume baron Badaruddin Azmal, which espouses the causes of mainly Muslim minorities, won two seats in lower Assam and one seat in Barak valley in the last year’s Lok Sabha elections. “This should not be viewed as a poll alliance but is aimed at tackling communalism which is destroying the secular fabric of the country,” he said. Gogoi, however, said such a possibility is “very thin” but he will continue to try to bring all forces against communalism together. “Modi’s popularity is fast waning and the results of assembly elections in different states even during the party’s honeymoon period is (going to be) an indication that people are losing their faith in him,” he said. Gogoi said the “aggressive manner” in which Modi campaigned in Bihar clearly indicates that the party is facing tough time and is not at all confident about its prospects even though they are in power at the Centre and had won huge mandate in the last Lok Sabha polls in the state,” he said. Besides, it had lost in Uttarakhand and had failed to get a majority in Maharashtra. In Assam, the BJP has very “bleak prospects as it has no base and there is no credible leader,” he said.
“BJP is importing leaders from all other parties like the Congress, AGP, student organisations like the AASU and even militants having NIA cases pending against them have joined hands with them,” he said. The Congress prospects were “very good” and he was sure the party would form the next government after the assembly polls scheduled next year, Gogoi said. Gogoi alleged that contrary to BJP government’s claim of ushering in development, the situation in the North East has deteriorated. “There is no cooperation by the BJP government though Modi and his Ministers are good to me and continue to give me assurances but they do nothing,” he said. The BJP government at the Centre has withdrawn the special category status to the North Eastern states and has not even “released the funds due to us”. “They are good to me personally but I want result. I do not want anything personally but what I want them to be good to the people of Assam and work in their interest,” Gogoi added.

Nov) Yangon: Myanmar’s democracy heroine Aung San Suu Kyi today vowed to run the government if her opposition party wins this Sunday’s landmark election, despite being barred from the presidency. The former junta-ruled country goes to the polls on Sunday in elections which could see the army’s decades-long grip on power substantially loosened. Suu Kyi has towered over Myanmar’s politics after a decades-long struggle for democracy and her party is expected to make major gains at Sunday’s polls if the vote is free and fair. Yet under the military-scripted constitution, the 70-year- old is barred from running for the presidency by a clause believed to have been written specifically to thwart her bid for the country’s top office.
But in bullish remarks to international media ahead of Sunday’s vote she vowed to be “above the president” in the event of a victory by her National League for Democracy (NLD) party. “I will run the government and we will have a president who will work in accordance with the policies of the NLD,” she told reporters gathered on the lawn of her Yangon home, the same mansion she was confined to during years of house arrest by the former generals. Her path to the presidency is blocked by a charter clause outlawing those with foreign-born offspring taking the top post. Her two sons have British passports – their late father was a British academic. Many hope Sunday’s election will be the country’s freest and fairest for a generation but concerns abound in a country with a long history of the army stifling democracy.
Polls in 1990 swept by the NLD were ignored by the military, while a 2010 election was boycotted by Suu Kyi’s opposition over fraud fears. Reforms by the military since then have seen a quasi-civilian government take charge and guide sweeping changes leading to this weekend’s election. But Suu Kyi struck a note of caution over the election, expressing reservations over the willingness of election officials to tackle allegations of irregularities so far. Asked how vigilant she was to the possibility of fraud she said: “If it looks too suspicious then I think we will have to make a fuss about it.”But she added it was important for her party to run a government of “national reconciliation” if the NLD wins. The party’s main rival is the incumbent Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) which is led by former general Thein Sein and stacked with ex-military cadres.

(3 Nov) Kabul: The splinter faction of the Afghanistan Taliban which has challenged Mullah Akhtar Mansoor’s leadership as illegitimate has picked a new leader, the media reported on Tuesday. “Mullah Omar’s close aide Mullah Mohammad Rasoul, who refused to make allegiance to Mansoor, was chosen by his supporters as the supreme leader of Taliban fighters on Monday,”
Tolo television channel reported in its news bulletin. Neither the Taliban nor the Afghanistan government have commented on the report. In the wake of the confirmation in late July of the death of Taliban leader Mullah Omar, The Taliban militants divided into two factions of supporters and opponents of Mullah Akhatar Mansoor. The opponents close to Mullah Omar led by Mullah Yaqub, son of Mullah Omar, opposed Mullah Akhtar Mansoor’s legitimacy as Amirul Momin (the supreme leader), and the challenge practically divided the armed group. According to media reports, Mullah Manan Niazi has been appointed the spokesman and Mullah Mansoor Dadullah the deputy leader of the splinter group of the Taliban.
Chennai/New Delhi: Indian automobile giant Tata Motors Ltd on Monday announced it has signed-up Argentine footballer Lionel Messi as its global brand ambassador for its passenger vehicles. In a statement, Tata Motors said it has signed-up Messi in a long-term association as its global brand ambassador to promote and endorse its passenger vehicles globally.
This is the first time ever that the passenger vehicle business will be undertaking an overall brand association campaign with a brand ambassador, it said. To start with, Tata Motors will first roll-out the association campaign, #madeofgreat, starring Messi. “As we look to expand our footprint across the globe, Messi’s unique ability to appeal globally, transcending geographies, makes him ideal person to represent our brand, internationally,” said passenger vehicle business unit president Mayank Pareek. Messi said: “Namaste India. I am very excited about my first association with an Indian thrilled to be a part of the Tata Motors family.
“I have always been fascinated by India and have heard such great things about this diverse country. I was once in India with Argentina National Team – and I hope to visit it again.” Messi also noted Tata Motors “is a true representation of India and a well-established brand, globally”. “It is important to believe in yourself and keep pushing to achieve success and that is what the first campaign stands for. I hope together we are able to inspire many more,” he said.
(3 Nov) Ghaziabad : Former IPS officer Y.P. Singh on Tuesday rejected Chhota Rajan’s claims linking some Mumbai cops with India’s most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim and said that the arrested underworld don was speaking half truth. “Chhota Rajan is just speaking the half truth. He is not speaking the full truth. Dawood Ibrahim indeed might be having connections with the Mumbai Police because no gangster can flourish till the time they get permission from the local police, but by the same reckoning Chhota Rajan and his gang members can have intimate connections with the Mumbai Police,” said Singh.
He asserted that Rajan’s claim that only people linked to Dawood have connections with the Mumbai Police and not his men was not the correct preposition. He also said it was not legally right for the Delhi Police to take up Rajan’s case as it falls under the jurisdiction of the Mumbai Police. “When an FIR has been registered, it has to be investigated by the local police. He has to be By freepressjournal, 03 Nov 2015 03:32 PM
sent to remand to the local magistrate. The trial of the case shall be conducted by the local session court which is having jurisdiction over that specific area,” he added. Singh pointed out that it was legally necessary to seek permission from the Supreme Court in case this matter has to be shifted to Delhi. Rajan in an explosive claim earlier alleged that some officials in the Mumbai Police have links with Dawood. “Mumbai Police has committed a lot of atrocities on me and I don’t trust them. There are some in the Mumbai Police who are working with Dawood.
The Delhi government should do justice with me keeping that in mind. I am not scared of Dawood and I will continue fighting against him and terrorism,” said Rajan. The deportation process has already begun and the Rajan will be taken to Delhi first. The six-member joint team from the Mumbai crime branch, Delhi Police special cell and the CBI were at the Bali Police Headquarters yesterday here to meet Rajan and continue the deportation process. The joint team is carrying all the relevant documents needed for Rajan’s deportation, including his crime history and a court warrant against him. Rajan, one of India’s most wanted criminals and a leading figure in the Mumbai underworld, was arrested on October 24. He is wanted for at least 68 cases in Mumbai alone, including over 20 murder cases and other serious offences under MCOCA, POTA and the Arms Act.
The first plane produced by a Chinese government initiative to compete in the market for large passenger jetliners has been unveiled in Shanghai.
The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) showed off its twin-engine C919 in a ceremony on Monday attended by some 4,000 government officials and other guests at a hangar near the Pudong International Airport.
China’s aviation market is growing fast but relies on Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
The ruling Communist Party wants to claw back some of the commercial benefits that flow to foreign suppliers.
Dependence on Boeing and Airbus
For China, the plane represents at least seven years of efforts in a state-mandated drive to reduce dependence on European consortium Airbus and Boeing of the United States, and even compete against them.
“China’s air transport industry cannot completely rely on imports. A great nation must have its own large commercial aircraft,” the country’s civil aviation chief Li Jiaxiang told an audience of government and industry officials.
A small truck towed the 39-metre long plane – painted white with a green tail – out of a cavernous building decorated with an enormous Chinese flag into the sunlight as project workers marched alongside, an AFP news agency journalist saw.
“The roll out of the first C919 aircraft marks a significant milestone in the development of China’s first indigenous aircraft,” COMAC chairman Jin Zhuanglong told the ceremony.
The aircraft, which has a range of up to 5,555 kilometres, will make its first test flight in 2016, he said – meaning that it will miss the original deadline of this year.
The China Daily newspaper has reported the maiden voyage could even be put back to 2017.
China has dreamed of building its own civil aircraft since the 1970s when Jiang Qing, leader Mao Zedong’s wife and a member of the notorious “Gang of Four”, personally backed an attempt to do so. But the Y-10’s heavy weight made it impractical and only three were ever made.
Although the C919 is made in China, foreign firms are playing key roles by supplying systems as well as the engines, which are made by CFM International, a joint venture between General Electric (GE) of the US and France’s Safran.
More than 500 orders
Spending on the C919 has not been revealed. Last month, the Export-Import Bank of China said it would provide state-owned COMAC with $7.9bn in finance for its aircraft projects.
The company already has orders for 517 of its C919 planes, according to a COMAC statement, almost all of them from domestic buyers. Among foreign customers, Thailand’s City Airways has ordered 10, according to an announcement last month.
But it will take years for the C919 to be delivered to customers, with the plane expected to enter service in 2019 at the earliest, industry officials said.
“There’s a lot of work to do still,” said Briand Greer, president for Asia-Pacific of Honeywell Aerospace, which is supplying four key systems for the C919: flight control, wheels and brakes, auxiliary power units and navigation.
“A lot of testing, a lot of flight testing, systems integration testing and of course all the certification,” he told AFP.
COMAC has already developed a smaller regional jet, the ARJ, in a project which is years behind schedule.
Test flights
The 78-90 seat ARJ is still undergoing test flights and lacks the crucial certification by the US Federal Aviation Administration that would enable it to fly in US skies.
The Chinese company also plans a wide body plane, the C929, in cooperation with Russia’s United Aircraft Corp., and speculation is mounting China will create a new aero-engine entity to try to produce the powerful jets needed for large civil aircraft.
China is expected to add 6,330 new aircraft worth $950bn to its commercial fleet by 2034, Boeing stimates.
The single-aisle C919 targets the lucrative segment dominated by Boeing’s 737 and the Airbus A320.
“Research and manufacturing of a big plane is complex,” said China’s Vice Premier Ma Kai, the highest government leader attending the ceremony. “There is still a long way to go to commercial operation.”

The movie has really projected the 70’s and 80’s very well. The hippe era and smoking of hashish from the pot has sent nostalgic feelings all over.
It is strongly felt that the movie should have the English version as well. However in Hindi the audience all over India may not appreciate the movie very much, with the excessive use of English and the complicated sequence of events.
Randeep Hoonda has done a fantastic job. Charles has been fully justified by him. The French accent that Randeep has picked up has really impressed the audience.
It may be reminded that even that this age about five years back a young lawyer from Nepal married Charles in jail. The girl faced a lot of criticism but she went on with the marriage.
