NEW DELHI: The mission of ‘Make in India’ can not become a reality unless we have adequate skilled manpower in the country, Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said today.
“Students need to be taught entrepreneurial skills to gain confidence and become job creators,” the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Rudy said at the India Today Conclave.
As the market for quality plumbers, electricians and carpenters continues to expand, there is a growing need for vocational and skill training,” he added.
Rudy also said that there should be more emphasis on holistic education rather than on only promoting sciences.
The government is currently in the process of revising the National Skill Development Policy, which had been devised by the erstwhile Congress-led UPA government in 2009.
The skilled workforce in South Korea is 96 per cent, 80 per cent in Japan, 75 per cent in Germany and 70 per cent in Britain. Compared to this, the skilled workforce in India is only two per cent.

Nagpur, Mar 13: Even as the Modi government has come under fire from RSS affiliates over the Land Acquisition Bill, the Sangh today said the legislation was not bad but suggested that differences over it be sorted out through dialogue. “I don’t think the bill is bad after the government made some amendments to it,” RSS joint general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale told journalists at a briefing as the three-day brainstorming session of the Pratinidhi Sabha, the highest decision making body of the Sangh, kicked off here. The land bill is facing stiff resistance from RSS affiliates like Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) and Bhartiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), whose representatives are also attending the meet. “These (BMS and BKS) are independent entities. We have invited them here because they work with the Sangh’s inspiration. As independent entities they are free to hold their opinion and express it in the way they feel is fit,” he said.
Hosabale said RSS wanted “proper coordination” to be established between the Centre and organisations like BMS and BKS, which have opposed the bill. “RSS will try and inspire both (government and RSS affiliates). Now the goal should be to hold a dialogue to ensure that the farmers get their due. “I think the government will take care of the demands voiced by BMS and BKS and ensure the goals of the legislation are realised on the ground,” Hosabale said.

Government is actively considering changing rules and regulations relating to medical services to improve and expand health facilities in every part of the country, Lok Sabha was informed today.
“There is a need to change some rules and regulations and government is actively considering it,” Health Minister J P Nadda said during question hour.
Nadda’s response came when Lakshadweep MP Mohammed Faizal suggested that medical practitioners serving in rural areas should be trained in modern medical techniques and equipment so that the shortage of advance medical facilities in backward areas could be resolved.
“We have to discuss the issue with various stakeholders, including Medical Council of India, to arrive at a decision in this regard,” the Minister said.
In addition to the bilateral agreements between India and other countries in the field of health cooperation, he said international cooperation was also achieved through the aegis of WHO, SAARC forum and other international arrangements such as BRICS framework for strategic cooperation in health.
Nadda said international cooperation facilitated capacity building, training, exchange of information, exchange of experts, health, health manpower development, technical support in establishing laboratories and hospitals and research in mutually identified areas on the basis of equality reciprocity and mutual benefit.
The entire top Congress leadership including Sonia Gandhi on Thursday took to the streets to express solidarity with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who has been summoned as accused in a coal scam case, with the party President calling it “outrageous”.
Sonia Gandhi chaired a meeting of the CWC at Congress headquarters early in the morning and immediately led a march to Singh’s residence about half a km away in the heart of the capital in which several of Singh’s cabinet colleagues P Chidambaram, Anand Sharma, Ambika Soni, Veerappa Moily and K Rehman Khan were present.
The Congress leaders also attacked the government accusing it of maintaining a “studied silence” after the CBI had told the court that there was no criminality involved in the allocation of Talabira coal blocks II to Hindalco company of Aditya Birla group in Odisha in 2005 when Singh also held the portfolio of coal. Gandhi declared that they would fight the case with all legal means at their command
“I was outraged at the news that summons had been served to Manmohan Singh,” the Congress president said.
The former Prime Minister is known not only in our country but throughout the world as being a person of integrity and probity. We are here to offer our unstinted support, our solidarity. The Congress party is fully behind him. We shall fight this legally and with all our means at our command. We are sure, we are convinced that he will be vindicated,” she told reporters at Singh’s residence.
Singh, accompanied by his wife, received the leaders at the porch of his residence. The leaders greeted him warmly. The former Prime Minister had yesterday expressed confidence that he will prove his innocence in a fair trial.
“Of course, I am upset but this is part of life. I have always said I am open for legal scrutiny. I am sure the truth will prevail and I will get a chance to put forward my case with all the facts,” Singh had said.
A special court had summoned Singh along with industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, ex-coal secretary P C Parakh and three others as accused in a case pertaining to allocation of Talabira-II coal block in Odisha in 2005 and asked them to appear before it on April 8.
