The election commission had issued a show cause notice to Kejriwal on the bribery issue..
The poll watchdog also issued him a fresh show cause notice for his repeated alleged statements that while people should accept bribe from BJP and Congress, they should vote for AAP. He has been asked to respond to the notice by 11 am on January 27 “failing which the Election Commission of India shall take a decision without any further reference to you”. In its order on BJP’s complaint that Kejriwal had alleged that “BJP has been responsible for inciting communal riots in various parts of Delhi in the recent past”, the EC said it has carefully considered his reply sent on Friday.
In his letter to the election commissioner Kejriwal states that the allegation leveled against him that he is encouraging people to take bribes is absolutely wrong. He says his party is against corrupt people. He further says Aam Party was born to cleanse the corruption in India. In this circumstances and principle that we follow how could I possibly encourage someone to take bribes Kejriwal further clarifies
He says the truth that many political leaders buy votes by giving money or through distribution of goods and materials cannot be denied. In spite of the efforts of the elections commission and other watch dog NGOs, this practice unfortunately does exist, In this context what I have said is to accept the money or bribe by these politicians but to cast your vote according to your choice and will.
Kejriwal writes to election commission to carefully and cautiously go through his recorded speech which makes the matter clear. If I said that people should vote for parties who are offering money then I could be blamed. What I have said is just the opposite that do not vote for parties who offer you money.
In my previous election campaign I have repeatedly said the same lines. At that time no one had any objections. But now BJP and Congress are dead against me. What is the reason? What is their problem?
In fact by making this statement I have tried to erase the dirty practices of these political parties and politicians. The media has misinterpreted my statements; I have raised a very direct question to the public do political leaders come to distribute money? The answer comes in a loud affirmative voice from the public. So this proves that the practice of distributing money is happening in a large scale.
Kejriwal writes that my appeal to the public to stop such dirty practice for about a year has made an impact and due to this the BJP and Congress are a worried lot. They are panicky of the impact that I have created in the public.
He then concludes by saying that he and his lawyers have read the definition of corrupt and are aware what it means I legal terms. I have high respect for the Election commission.
